Laura Thomas & Rolf Althen

Founded by Laura Thomas, Consul-T was previously the management consultancy business run by her late father (the T being for Thomas, and tea - Laura really loves tea - and Tanqueray, another firm favourite!).  Laura is super proud to be taking Consul-T in to 2021 with the launch of Consul-T (2021) Ltd.  

Laura isn't a management consultant but a regulatory Barrister, with a difference!  She's an award winning 'Leading Lawyer' who has worked for the HSE and as a Deputy Traffic Commissioner but, uniquely, has also worked in industry in risk, quality, health, safety and environmental leadership roles. She understands the reality of putting advice in to practice.

Rolf joined Consul-T in March 2024 after a long career as an inhouse lawyer. He is a lawyer dual qualified in England and Germany and has developed the risk and governance systems of organisations in different industries applying a risk-based approach. This includes training of staff on what, why and how. 

Compliance requires the right culture and often a culture shift in an organization - this is not necessarily an “easy” target to pursue as the (positive) impact on the bottom line is indirect but the risk to the organisation is direct and expensive.

Rolf is a lawyer who understands the nuances of   applying the correct focus on risk balanced against the goals of the business and its risk appetite and was once described by one of his managers as an “unusual lawyer who understands the commercial drivers”.

It's Laura's leadership expertise that's the foundation of Consul-T.  Having defended and prosecuted in regulatory (mainly health and safety and transport) cases for over 20 years, Laura knows what good (and bad) looks like.  However, more importantly, she has experienced the challenges of implementing people-centred health and safety, environmental and risk strategies in business.

Laura will work with your business to improve your risk culture, find solutions to your regulatory problems and develop your people.  Whether it's devising a health and safety strategy, assisting with your net zero carbon vision, solving your transport queries or delivering leadership training programmes, she brings an empathic and practical approach that can transform your business.

Rolf will bring to bear his extensive experience as lawyer having worked in senior leadership positions in international companies. From start-up to successful multinational enterprise brings with it the growing pains to ensure good governance is maintained and the organisation operates legally. 

Working with organisations to set up and develop (as the business grows) robust governance/compliance systems to ensure the activities of the organisation remain on the right side of the law by developing and implementing adequate procedures and policies whilst being practical and well embedded in the culture and structure of the organisation.

Training your people on risk matters from understanding contract terms to ensuring they understand the effect of their actions in relation to compliance with laws and regulations is a key tool he can provide. His approach is to apply the teaching to the business you are engaged in.
